How To Skateboard: Learning The Basic Moves
Skateboarding is an incredibly popular sport today. There are professional skaters who make a living at this sport and who are known around the world. Now considered as a legit professional sport, there are people who make a living out of skating. Good balance is an important skill and there are a few moves that must be mastered if you want to know how to skateboard.
When getting started learning how to skateboard, the only equipment you really need is a board and helmet. As a beginner it’s probably best if you invest in some elbow and knee pads as well because you’re liable to fall down a few times before you get the hang of things. For beginners it’s best to practice the Ollie at first without the board moving. For beginners it’s best to try and Ollie while the board is still, rather than when it’s moving.
To perform the trick you want to place your front foot in the middle of the board and back foot at the tail end. Then you bend your body down a bit and push hard on the back end. As the front of the board starts to come up you slide your foot up more towards the front end of the board and kick even harder down with this foot. Just be sure that you keep your feet close to the board at all times so that you don’t lose your balance and fall off on the landing.
The Manual is another very basic trick and one that any person learning how to skateboard should work on. This is a trick that lifts the front wheels of the board up and has you balancing on two wheels while moving. It’s definitely neat to watch and a bit tricky to perform. You push the board and get going at a relatively fast speed, then Ollie onto a rail or other object, land on your back wheels keeping most of your weight at this end.
As long as you can maintain your balance you can do a Manual for as long as the board keeps moving. Boardsliding is another really cool trick which you can do after you have mastered the Ollie. Get the board going and head towards a rail, when you’re near the rail you Ollie then make the board go sideways using the strength of your legs and land on the rail so that you’re sliding the board down it. This trick can be a bit more difficult to get the hang of but is amazing when you perfect it.
