Understanding How To Do An Ollie On A Skateboard

Now that you have learned how to say on your skateboard without ending upon your back on the sidewalk, its time to learn your first skateboarding trickThe first trick everyone learns is how to do an ollie on a skateboard because that is the most fundamental of all skateboard tricks and forms the basis of a great many of the advanced ricks that the professional skaters do.  Learning how to do an ollie on a skateboard is not hard and once you master this, learning all the other tricks becomes much easier.

It all begins by knowing how to place your feet on the boardthe rear foot must be on the tail and the front foot in placed between the middle of the board and the bolt head at the front.  The ball of your rear foot should be in the middle of the board so that when you push down the force is exerted by the ball of the foot.  The front foot should be place in a nearly horizontal position across the board.  Start practicing maintaining this position on a still board first and then on a moving one.

Now, while motionless, try pushing down with you back foot so that all your body weight is on the tail of the board – this is the fist movement you will nee to do to perform an ollie.  Now try this while moving and you will find that the more you bear down on the tail of the board, the more the board wants to keep moving – this is the energy that will get it off the ground.  Now we come to the actual ollie itself – while moving at medium speed press down on the tail until it hits the ground and then jump up and try to bring your front knee near your chest.  While doing this, drag the front foot across the surface of the skateboard and it will appear that the board is stuck to your foot.

Keep building you the speed at which you do the ollie and you will find that you will be able to jump higher and higher.  The secret of how to do an ollie on a skateboard lies in remembering that there are three actions that have to be done at the same time – pressing the tail down, jumping up and drawing the front knee to the chest.  Timing is everything and all these three actions have to be done at the same time.
